AHA Weekly Meeting: Morality Part 1

Weekly Meeting

Morality

Thursday, November 7th - 7pm
Ingraham Hall, Room 224

This week we'll be tackling the subject of morality! To secular individuals, it seems to be fairly obvious that one does not need belief in a higher power in order to be moral, but unfortunately, many religious people misconstrue the secular-minded as incapable of true morality. In this meeting we'll be asking questions such as: How is religious morality different from secular morality? How do you deal with being told that you are immoral by religious people?  And much more!

Can't make the meeting? Join us afterwards at the Rathskeller around 9pm for drinks, food, and more great conversation.

I hope to see you there!

Next Week's Meeting:

Morality - Part 2

Thursday, November 14th - 7pm

Ingraham Hall, Room 224

Since the issue of morality is so relevant to the secular movement, we've decided to allot two meetings to the topic. This meeting will be led by officers Sam and Chris, who will be addressing the topic of morality with a more scholarly, philosophical approach that will be sure to generate great discussion.

We hope you can join us!

The God Graveyard

This display was placed on Bascom Hill last Wednesday, October 30th. The halloween-themed graveyard featured hundreds of "gravestones" of gods that are no longer worshiped in large numbers as they once were. We then posed the simple question: how long will the gods of today last?

The response to this display was stunning. For more than a day, we were the top link on the subreddit r/atheism. We were also picked up on the popular blog The Friendly Atheist, and many other news sources. These sites combined led to nearly 150,000 views on our blog post and a 26,000% increase in activity on our Facebook page.

Our display even grew angry responses from many pagans around the world! Because it's not a proper atheism display unless you piss a lot of people off...

Halloween Pumpkin Decorating

At our last meeting, AHA decided to add a fun activity to our Halloween themed discussion. Members were able to let their creative juices flow and decorate a gourd with a design of their choice. These works of art are now on display in the AHA office, 3157 SAC. Come check them out anytime Monday-Friday from 3-6pm!
